A hidden gem for those who know where to look

Living in Scarborough

Scarborough is a small, self-contained community tucked between Lakeview and the Glenmore Reservoir, and residents who live there tend to stay. Turnover is among the lowest of any SW inner-ring community, which speaks to how well it works for the people inside it.

The neighbourhood has a cohesive, established quality that comes from limited new development and long-term ownership. Streets are quiet, trees are mature, and the community association is active without being overbearing. It has the feel of a neighbourhood that was built for people to actually live in, rather than to be photographed for marketing materials.

The Glenmore Reservoir pathway and Weaselhead Natural Area are minutes away on foot, offering exceptional green space access.

  • Weaselhead Natural Area on the doorstep
  • Low-turnover, tight-knit community feel
  • Well-connected via Glenmore Trail and Sarcee Trail
  • Quiet streets with established mature tree canopy

Homes & Real Estate in Scarborough

Scarborough's housing stock is a mix of mid-century originals and more recent builds that arrived as the community matured and individual lots were developed or redeveloped. The scale is predominantly single-family detached, preserving a calm residential character.

When properties come to market here, they tend to attract buyers who have specifically sought out the community and appreciate Scarborough's combination of value, location, and community quality.

Pricing is slightly more accessible than Britannia or upper Elbow Park while offering comparable access to the reservoir and a similar quality of residential environment.

Mid-century bungalows and two-storeys
Renovated original homes on established lots
Occasional newer custom builds
Single-family detached (predominantly)
Lesley's Take

My Take

Scarborough is a wonderful option for buyers seeking established streets, reservoir access, and a strong sense of community in southwest Calgary. It offers a distinctive combination of location, value, and quality of life.

Because turnover is so low, each Scarborough sale adds meaningful context to the community. I know this area well enough to help sellers position their homes thoughtfully and help buyers understand current value with confidence.

The proximity to the reservoir is the neighbourhood's enduring value driver. Natural amenity access in an urban environment is finite and irreplaceable, and Scarborough has some of the best of it in SW Calgary.
