Living in Marda Loop
Marda Loop is named after a long-gone streetcar line, but it's very much a neighbourhood of the present. The 33rd Avenue commercial strip is genuinely excellent, with independent coffee shops, serious restaurants, a pharmacy, a hardware store, fitness studios, and the kind of eclectic retail that grows where people live.
Residents here are a mix: young professionals in the condos and townhomes, families in the detached homes, and downsizers who moved here from larger SW homes to gain walkability without losing the neighbourhood feel. The common thread is that nobody drives when they don't have to.
The Garrison Farmers' Market, annual street festivals, and a strong community association make Marda Loop one of Calgary's most socially active neighbourhoods.

Homes & Real Estate in Marda Loop
The housing diversity in Marda Loop is striking. On the same block you might find a 1940s bungalow on a large lot, a contemporary semi-detached infill, and a low-rise condo building. This variety supports a wide price range and draws buyers at multiple life stages.
The condo market here is well-established. Low-rise wood-frame and concrete buildings with 10–40 units define the market, offering urban convenience with a genuinely residential scale.
Detached homes command significant premiums for their rarity. A well-maintained original bungalow or a quality infill on the residential streets south of 33rd Avenue is a genuinely scarce asset in a neighbourhood where walkability drives strong, consistent demand.
Low-rise condominiums (wide price range)

1940s–50s bungalows (renovation and infill potential)

Lesley's Take
My Take
On condos in Marda Loop, the building matters as much as the unit. I review reserve fund health, building systems, and condo board governance to help buyers understand the full ownership experience.
For detached homes, location within Marda Loop matters more than the address suggests. The streets immediately south of 33rd Avenue have pedestrian vibrancy and foot traffic that many buyers love. The residential streets a few blocks north are quieter and more family-oriented. Your lifestyle should guide which setting suits you best.
